Drug Withdrawal & Anxiety

When doctors start you on a pill, often they don’t monitor your progress and many people decide to stop taking their drugs without first consulting their physician. This can produce withdrawal symptoms that can be worse than the symptoms that led to initially taking the drug. Some of the worst offenders are anti-depressants, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, narcotics, nicotine and caffeine – precisely the pills many anxiety sufferers take for relief! Withdrawal from these drugs can initially produce jitteriness and anxiety that intensifies to panic, and especially if you stop “cold turkey.” To be safe, you should discontinue these drugs gradually and under doctor supervision.
